Annika Sandström, Principal Lecturer, D.Sc. (Econ.)

Ms. Annika Sandström (D.Sc. Econ.) is a Principal Lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences specializing in finance.

In this position for nearly 10 years, Annika is responsible for developing the Haaga-Helia Degree Programme in Finance and Economics as well as other finance related modules for the Business Progammes and the eMBA Progamme. As a Partner Manager, Annika administers various projects with the Finnish financial services sector. Her special interests include new areas of fintech and data-analytics as well as development economics.

Prior to her current position, Annika was conducting research in the areas of international credit- and political risk. Annika holds a Ph.D. (Econ.) from Hanken School of Economics, Finland. Related to her research that focused on developing countries, she also worked with the United Nations. Annika visited UNITAR, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, under the Capacity Building Programmes of Legal Aspects of Debt, Financial Management and Negotiation (Geneve); WIDER, the World Institute for Development Economics Research (Helsinki); and Institute for Financial Research (Stockholm). 

Annika has work experience from asset management, investment banking and venture capital. She has completed the Certified EFFAS (European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies) Financial Analyst – Programme and worked as a corporate finance analyst. Currently, Annika is involved with her family company, holding a board position in a small manufacturing company producing boating equipment.
